3D Quilled Paper Sunflower: Botanical Wall Art & Color Inspiration

There’s no flower that captures late-summer warmth quite like a bold, golden sunflower! For this statement piece, I wanted to focus on rich textures and high dimension, combining a few of my favorite quilling techniques to make the botanical details really come alive.

The star of the show is definitely the giant center disc, crafted from a thick, brown fringed coil that adds amazing tactile depth. To build the petals, I used crimped paper strips inside a sealed marquise frame to give each golden-yellow petal a wavy, light-reflecting surface. For the surrounding foliage, I shaped deep green comb-quilled leaves with scalloped borders, tucking in a few cobalt blue star blossoms wrapped in white paper to make the yellow tones pop even more.

This composition was such a joy to piece together—it makes a fantastic focal piece for framed shadow boxes, seasonal greeting cards, or wall art!
